OUR ENCHILADA OF FREEDOM

Today was the day. And when I say the day I mean our first day of work and the day of tough decisions. We had consulted a local car-hiring firm upon our arrival in Queenstown to determine how much would it cost to hire a car for a month so we could go and explore (read: seek and destroy) the tourist destinations and the awesome sceneries of the south island of New Zealand. As you may guess we walked out with a piece of paper and mind blowing confusion between prices containing full insurance or containing no insurance at all. However a car was booked to be retrieved from the Apex of Queenstown the next day at noon.  After a long conversation and pondering we decided to pay a little extra and make sure that if the driving on the wrong side of the road would turn out to be too overwhelming for some Asian tourists we wouldn’t be liable to pay when they will smash their Daihatsu to our new family member. The idea seemed bullet proof until we arrived to the rental firm and Lotta realized that she would actually have to drive the car from Apex to our new home through a route that contained three or more roundabouts. Reaction was a hysterical laughter seizure that can be seen on this video:

After a small shopping spree, few heart attacks and using the wipers instead of signal we survived to the highway that took us home. And low and behold here he is equipped with modern radio with C-tape slot and virtually no air conditioning, our enchilada of freedom.

This little bugger is supposed to take us to infinity and beyond (or maybe just to Christchurch and the nearby areas) as safely as we can drive him (which from this experience is a very vague concept). However, after a few practice rounds we are confident we’ll get him purring like a kitty cat; so good luck to us and Godspeed!
